It might be a good idea to swap the togs and jandals for a raincoat, with heavy rain and gale force winds lashing many parts of the country. Severe weather warnings are in place for southern and central and as an active front and band of heavy rain moves up the islands. Very heavy rain that is falling over northern Westland, Buller and western parts of Nelson isn't expected to ease until Friday afternoon. Parts of the North Island - particularly the Tararua Range and ranges of eastern Bay of Plenty - can also expect a drenching. MetService has a severe thunderstorm watch in place for the West Coast and the top half of the North Island. www.msn.com/en-nz/news/national/gales-heavy-rain-lashing-parts-of-nz/ar-AAguZAD?ocid=spartandhp
