Heart-breaking scenes in Christchurch as major flooding hits some suburbs.
Christchurch chief reporter Jo Scott is in the suburb of St Albans.
"I'm standing here looking at a street that is completely under water, the water lapping up at people's windows.
"There's cars that have been abandoned in the street with water above their bumper bars.
"It's actually isolated at the moment, there's not really a soul about, there's just a few people sort of trying to make their way through the water in gumboots.
"But what's heart breaking about this is that this is the same area, these were the same homes, that were flooded with liquefaction in the major earthquakes."
Jo Scott said she has even seen two guys using an airbed as a kayak on a suburban street.
"People are walking around just in disbelief but there's definitely some people seeing the funny side of it."
Jo Scott has also seen a shipping container outside someone's house, surrounded by water at least two feet deep.
"And the sad thing about that is, that inside that shipping container will be the home owners' possessions.
"At the moment when people move out of their home to have their earthquake repairs done, they put all of their possessions into a shipping container, often outside the front of a house.
"And so in that person's shipping container is probably everything that they own."
Another Christchurch school has closed because of severe flooding.
Shirley Boys High School students have been sent home because the school infrastructure has crashed .
