Winter is leaving some parts of the South Island with a bang this week. The heavens opened above Christchurch last night, dropping hailstones the size of golfballs and booms of thunder. Cantabrians were treated to a huge electrical storm which started at around 6.30 last night. The Fire Service attended 20 callouts across the city including a roof that blew off in Hornby, Newstalk ZB reports. One person captured an amazing timelapse of the storm, captured standing on the roof of their garage, which, luckily for them, stayed intact. Posted by AleetProductions, the maker acknowledged this decision was "a bit silly...especially with a metal tripod".
