MetService, FuseworksAugust 19, 2012, 2: A disturbed southerly flow is expected to affect much of the country during Tuesday as a large low pressure system moves slowly eastwards from over New Zealand. This unsettled situation is expected to bring showers to areas of the North Island, a period of rain to the east of the South Island and cold showers to Southland and Clutha. There is low confidence of a period of significant heavy rain for Canterbury and the eastern ranges of Marlborough on Tuesday.Although rainfall accumulations may not reach warn-able amounts, given the recent heavy rainfall in these areas it is felt that they should be included in a low risk area. On Wednesday, the southerly flow is expected to weaken as a ridge of high pressure starts to build over southern New Zealand. The ridge is expected to lie over central New Zealand during Thursday. During Friday, the ridge should move over the North Island, while a northerly flow is expected to strengthen over southern New Zealand. nz.news.yahoo.com/a/-/top-stories/14592288/large-low-pressure-system-to-move-eastwards/
