Newstalk ZBJune 5, 2012, 5:19 pm Warnings have been issued for possible surface flooding in parts of Christchurch tonight. High tide in the lower Avon River and lower Heathcote River is expected between 6pm and 8pm. The peak tide, combined with an incoming low pressure weather system could result in surface flooding in certain areas. The Christchurch City Council's continuing to monitor the situation. Meanwhile Waikato Civil Defence is warning residents in coastal communities on the Firth of Thames to prepare for tidal flooding similar to that which was experienced in January of last year. Group emergency management officer Greg Ryan says the combination of a king tide, a weather system bringing strong north easterly winds and a storm surge will result over the next day. If flooding occurs, it will be around the time of high tide at 8pm tonight. Civil Defence will be closely monitoring the situation. nz.news.yahoo.com/a/-/top-stories/13874338/flood-warnings-across-the-country/
