MetService, FuseworksJune 2, 2012, 2:26 pm On Monday, a ridge over New Zealand should weaken as a northwest airstream spreads over the South Island. On Tuesday, a cold front crosses the South Island, bringing a period of heavy rain about and west of the Alps. There is a moderate chance of this rain reaching warning levels. On Wednesday, the front is expected to cross the north of the country bringing rain to much of the North Island. There is a moderate chance this rain will reach warning levels over parts of Northland, the Coromandel Peninsula and eastern Bay of Plenty. A low should form on the front and on Wednesday night and Thursday morning, this could bring a burst of heavy rain to eastern areas. There is a low chance this rain will reach warning levels from Gisborne to the Kaikoura Coast overnight from Wednesday to Thursday.
