Al Jazeera confirms snow in Saudi Arabia. January 15, 2016 A rarity in Saudi Arabia, snow has blanketed the Hejaz region with two Bedouin shepherds having a chance to build a snowman This news item is only in Arabic and cannot be found on the English spoken website of Al Jazeeera beforeitsnews.com/alternative/2016/01/saudi-arabia-witnesses-snow-for-1st-time-in-85-years-3280874.htmlSnow fell right across the Middle East last week as a powerful winter storm swept through the region, with snow falling as far south as northern Saudi Arabia. Temperatures reached sub-zero in the desert surrounding area forcing the Bedouin shepherds, and their camels, to shelter inside their tents to protect them from the freezing temperatures and the snow storm. It has snowed three years running in the region but this storm was seen as being particularly intense. Two people were killed and several were injured due to road accidents caused by the snow and police closed main roads in the area. Temperatures have now returned to more typical values across the region, but the snow stayed long enough for the shepherds to build a snow man.
