The forecast says it's a day of rough weather, heavy rain and thunder, for many parts of the country.
Heavy rain is easing in the lower South Island but it's a rough day ahead with thunderstorms and downpours for the lower North Island.
The MetService forecast says heavy rain is expected in the northwest of the South Island and the Tararua Range and severe northwest gales are expected to hit the Wellington region, Marlborough and Waiarapa.
The upper North Island can expect thunder in the northwest while Auckland is set for a sticky, stormy day.
