The Newman government has confirmed it will wind up the Office of Climate Change, the Sentencing Advisory Council and the Queensland Workplace Rights Office as part of its cost-cutting drive. The Office of Climate Change, headed by former premier Anna Bligh’s bureaucrat husband Greg Withers, was created by the previous government in 2007 to oversee climate policy and programs. However, Premier Campbell Newman has previously announced the wind-up of state based climate schemes, amid claims of duplication with federal programs. It is understood there are 67 staff in the Office of Climate Change, but the office is divided into two sections, the sustainable industry group and the policy and programs section. It is expected at least 30 employees from the policy and programs section will be offered the option of taking a voluntary redundancy or a voluntary early retirement payout, or be reassigned to another role in the public service….. www.wakeup2thelies.com/2012/05/20/queensland-government-axes-its-office-of-climate-change/
